Abstract
This study aims to see the role of attitudes about breast self-examination on breast self-examination (BSE) behavior in the context of implementing early detection of breast cancer in young women at MAN Pematang Siantar. Attitudes on breast cancer can affect how breast self-examination in adolescent. The population in this study amounted to 686 female students of MAN Pematang Siantar. The number of samples in this study were 100 young women with a simple random sampling technique. The analysis technique used is descriptive analysis and simple linear regression. Data collection is carried out using the Attitudes about breast self-examintaion scale which is arranged based on Hogg and Vaughan (2011) theory which consist of 6 items and breast self-examination behaior scale which arranged based on Notoatmodjo (2014) theory which consist of 15 items. The results of this study indicate that attitude has a positive direction towards BSE behavior with a score of 0.001. If the attitudes about breast self-examination it is positive then the breast self-examination behavior will also be good. The results of the hypothesis test showed that tcount < ttable (0.280 <1.664) and the Sig. > 0.05 (0.780 > 0.05). These results prove that there is no significant effect between attitudes towards BSE behavior in the context of early detection of breast cancer in young women at MAN Pematang Siantar.
