Deskripsi Teknik Pembuatan dan Teknik Permainan Sarune Binge pada Masyarakat Karo Langkat Buatan Bapak Husin Sitepu di Desa Gunung Berlawan Kecamatan Sei Bingai Kabupaten Langkat
Abstract
Sarune is one of the musical instruments of the Karo tribe in the ensemble of Gendang
Lima Sidalanen whose function is to carry the melody. Sarune is included in the aerophone group
(musical instruments that produce primarily causing a body of air to vibrate). Sarune can be
classified into two groups, namely sarune karo and sarune binge. Sarune Binge has a larger size
and length as well as different playing techniques because the repertoire that is played has some
differences from sarune karo in general. The research location is in the village of Gunung
Berlawan. Gunung Berlawan Village is a village located in Sei Bingai district, Langkat regency
North Sumatra. One of the residents of this village became a resource person for making sarune
binge as well as a sarune binge player. The purpose of this paper is to maintain the existence of
sarune binge and to motivate the Karo people so they can recognize, play and understand how to
make and play this instrument. The theory used in this study is Khasima Susumu's theory in APTA
(Asia Performing Traditional Art, namely structural and functional approaches related to the
construction of musical instruments, measuring length, width, thickness, thinness, raw materials,
musical instrument making techniques. the functional approach is an approach related to sound
production, playing technique, measurement of the tones produced, tones scale, and regional
tones. In describing musical instruments, the author uses the theory put forward by Curt Sach and
Hornbostel (1961) namely a system of classifying instruments music based on the main vibration
source of the sound. The research method used is qualitative research, namely, data collection
through (1) literature study by reading books, literature and others (2) field studies including
observation, interviews, recording, taking pictures (3) desk work, data analysis to be collected in
accordance with the needs of the research report in the form of a thesis. The results of this study
are making sarune binge with a very traditional manufacturing technique and directly from
artisans as well as cultural actors who are experts and are known as traditional leaders, especially
in the field of traditional music among traditional Karo Langkat musicians. The sarune binge has
its own uniqueness compared to the sarune karo gugung, namely in terms of larger size and
different types of songs (repertoire) patam-patam. It is because the karo people live with Malay
people in Langkat Regency that make cultural acculturation. There are parts of sarune binge
namely, sarune's children, sarune stem, gundal sarune, ampang - ampang and tongkeh-tongkeh
and then the repertoire contained in sarune binge is odak - odak and patam-patam rambung
mbengkar.
