Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of conjunctions in Mandarin and Indonesian in the films Big Brother and Laskar Pelangi and discuss similarities differences in conjunctions in Mandarin and Indonesian in the film Big Brother and Laskar Pelangi. The theory used to analyze research is contrastive analysis. The research method used in this research is descriptive analysis. The research data is the utterances of characters that contain conjunctions. The source of research data is the film Big Brother and Laskar Pelangi. The results of the study show that in the film Big Brother there are six types of conjunctions and in the film Laskar Pelangi two types of conjunctions are found. The analysis shows that the two languages have similarities, namely (1) having the same function, which is connecting two words or sentences and having a conjunction that cannot be placed at the end of the sentence, (2) the location of the conjunction is placed before or after the subject word. The difference is (1) The use of the conjunction 和 in Mandarin cannot be placed side by side with verbs and verbs, nouns and nouns. The use of conjunctions in Mandarin, the word 还是 is used for questions only. The use of conjunctions in Mandarin, the word 因为，所以 is used to connect a sentence that has cause and effect. The use of conjunctions and in Indonesian can be placed side by side with verbs and verbs, nouns and nouns.
