This research discusses the background of the second-hand clothing trade in Sambu Market, Medan City in 1997, its development, and its challenges. The purpose of this research is to explain the used clothing trade in Medan City's Sambu Market. The research method used is the historical method, the initial stage is heuristics or source collection, through field studies and literature studies. Then the researcher verifies using interpretation or interpretation of the source to get a conclusion. The results of this study show that the Sambu Market experienced development in 2000, the economic life of traders in the Sambu Market was changing along with the development of market demand for used clothing and consumers. In 2015 traders also felt the turmoil of the rules of the used clothing ban and market fires, but there is always a way for traders to trade used clothing to keep going to achieve a self-sufficient economic life. The conclusion from the results of this study shows that Sambu Market has used clothing trading activities that are a strategic place for the people of Medan City, with many facilities, such as transportation, means of buying and selling in this case other necessity products close to the market center.
