dc.description.abstract | The research is conducted in the Library of Yayasan Perguruan Sultan Iskandar Muda. The objective of the research is to find out vandalism behavior toward book collections in the Library of Yayasan Perguruan Sultan Jskandar Muda. It is important to know about vandalism toward book collections. The research employs descriptive qualitative method. Vandalism is the act of causing damage to books by writing on them, ripping them, making specific marks, and removing some parts of the books. There are five informants served in this research. The data consist a/primary and secondary data which are collected by conducting interviews, observation, and documentation and analyzed by conducting data reduction, data presentation, and data v.erification. They are tested by using data triangulation, theoretical triangulation, and methodological triangulation. The result of the research shows that vandalism behavior in the Library of Yayasan Perguruan Sultan Iskandar Muda is usually committed by the students. They write or scratch the books to answer the questions in the books, they rip the books until there is no information remains, they make specific marks in the books so that there are many folded sheets in them, and they also tear the book covers and pages. The
books that are usually the target of vandalism are textbooks, books on questions, novels, and other kinds of books Some sanctions are applied for vandalism: if the books are not seriously damaged, the students will be warned and advised; if the
booksare seriously damaged, the students are notallowed to borrow in twoor three weeks; and if they lose the books, they are required to replace them. | en_US |
