Abstract

This thesis discusses tobacco farming in Lumban Sialaman Village, Paranginan District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency. The aim of this research is to explain the background of the people of Lumban Sialaman Village in growing tobacco, explain the development of people's tobacco farming in Lumban Sialaman Village in 1996-2006. The method used in the research This is a historical method, namely Heuristics is the first step taken by the author in the form of searching primary sources related to tobacco farming in Lumban Sialaman Village, Source Criticism, Interpretation (analyzing written data according to the object being researched. The final stage carried out is Historiography compiling reliable facts into an interesting study and paying attention to the chronological aspect. The results of this research are that tobacco farming in Lumban Sialaman Village has been carried out since 1996 and continues to develop until 2006. This tobacco farming has quite large economic potential to be developed as a source of income for the welfare of rural farmers. The results from the sale of tobacco harvests have high bargaining power and can improve the farmer's economy such as primary, secondary and tertiary needs. The conclusion from the results of this research is that tobacco farming in Lumban Sialaman Village is able to create more and more jobs. The community cultivates tobacco farming to this day which provides added value to the income of the Humbang Hasundutan area.
