dc.description.abstract | This study examines the Symbolic Interaction of Sexual Harassment Against Women in Medan Tembung District. Symbolic interaction is the interaction of actors who use symbols. They are interested in the way actors use symbols that represent what they mean to communicate with each other. The form of symbols that are usually interacted in the form of sexual comments. This study aims to determine the forms of symbols of sexual harassment that the perpetrator interacts with women in Medan Tembung District. In addition, to find out the response to the actions of resistance given by women as victims of these sexual harassment acts. In this study using George Herbert Mead theory of Symbolic Interaction as an analysis to determine the shape of the symbols that are interacted. This research was conducted using observation data collection techniques, in depth interviews and documentation. The subjects of this study were women ( victims ) of the symbolic interaction of sexual harassment in Medan Tembung sub district plus men who were the perpetrators of the symbolic interaction of sexual harassment. The results of this study illustrate that the process of symbolic interaction carried out by each actors is normal and natural for the community. Whereas the interaction between men and women is a form of sexual harassment. The forms of symbolic interaction that are usually obtained are in the form of calls, whistles, eye blinks, sexual comments, even being followed up to the victim‟s house and showing the male genitalia. Women get sexual harassment when they are in public spaces such as on the roadside, coffee shops and even in the transportation of expeditions. The attachment of the patriarchal system to men makes women always the objects of sexual harassment. This makes the victim reluctant to report the verbal sexual harassment she experienced. | en_US |
