dc.description.abstractThe preliminary plant design of the ethyl acetate manufacturing plant from ethanol and acetic acid using esterification process has a production capacity of 142.000 tons/year and operates for 330 days of operation per annum. The main process in the pre-design of this factory consists of three stages, namely the stage of the raw material preparation, the stage of formation of ethyl acetate (esterification process), and the stage of separation and purification of ethyl acetate. The reaction is a reaction of ethanol and acetic acid with homogeneous catalyst of sulfuric acid which takes place in a continuous stirred tank reactor under temperature conditions of 80oC for 0,612 hours. The amount of acetic acid needed to reach the annual production capacity is 18.535,644 kg/hour. The specific task was solved for the detail engineering design of the continuous stirred tank reactor for esterification reaction. Continuous stirred tank reactor that has been designed has the following specifications: • Diameter of the reactor : 3,085 m • Height of the reactor shell : 3,085 m • Height of the reactor head : 0,618 m • Total height of the reactor : 4,321 m • Thickness of the reactor shell : 3 8 ⁄ in • Thicness of the reactor head : 3 8 ⁄ in • Stirred type : Turbin datar berdaun enam • Material of the reactor : Stainless steel SA-240 type 316 Ethyl acetate manufacturing plant from ethanol and acetic acid using esterification process is planned to be established in Ngelom I, Sroyo, Kecamatan Jaten, Kabupaten Karanganyar, Provinsi Jawa Tengah, with the total area of the plant area are 14.179,200 m3. The water needs at this plant are supplied from the Begawan Solo River as much as 9.539,843 kg/hour. The planned form of corporate organization is Perseroan terbatas (PT) with a line and staff organization structure, as well as a total of 160 employees. The economic analysis results on this preliminary plant design are as follows: • Capital Investment (CI) = Rp 2.759.280.884.127 • Total Cost (TC) = Rp 2.045.461.875.666 • Profit Margin (PM) = 27,939% • Break Even Point (BEP) = 32,883% • Return On Investment (ROI) = 20,160% • Pay Out Time (POT) = 4 years 10 months • Return On Network (RON) = 33,601% • Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 20,064% Based on the results of economic analysis, it can be concluded that the ethyl acetate manufacturing plant from ethanol and acetic acid using esterification process is feasible to be established.en_US
