    Abstract
A Comparison of Yogurt and Probiotic Supplements Effects on the Hardness of Tooth Enamel: An In vitro Study x + 52 page. Teeth are the hardest tissue in the body because they contain hydroxyapatite (HA), a phosphate-based mineral. Hydroxyapatite in teeth can experience loss of dental minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and phosphate which results in a decrease in the hardness of tooth enamel which is called the demineralization process. Demineralization occurs because the enamel is susceptible to acid attack, from foods and soft drinks that are frequently consumed. The occurrence of demineralization which results in a decrease in the hardness of tooth enamel is triggered by a pH of food and drink below <5.5. Yoghurt and probiotic supplements are drinks that are often consumed by people because they can help digestive function and improve a person's immune system, however the low pH found in yoghurt and probiotic supplements can trigger a demineralization process if consumed every day. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of yoghurt and probiotic supplements on the hardness of tooth enamel. This research is a laboratory experimental study with a one group pretest posttest design. This study used 27 maxillary premolars which were randomly divided into 3 groups. Group 1 is the yoghurt solution group, group 2 is the probiotic supplement solution group, and group 3 is the control group. The results of the one way anova test showed that there was a significant difference in enamel surface hardness between the test groups with a value of p=0.016. Group 1 experienced an average decrease in violence of -48.03. Group 2 decreased by -79.19 and group 3 experienced an increase of 46.76. The conclusion of this research is that the probiotic supplement solution can reduce the hardness of tooth enamel more than soaking in a yoghurt solution for 4 consecutive days
