    Abstract
Heat-cured acrylic resin is the most widely used acrylic resin in dentistry. Apart from having advantages, this resin also has a weakness, such as being able to absorb water which can affect the stability of the denture. Reinforcement of fiber need to be done to improve its physical and mechanical properties. One of the natural fibers is barangan banana stem core fiber: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in water absorption in heat-cured acrylic resin after the addition of the barangan’s banana stem core fiber 0.5, 1, 1.5wt%. The sample used in this research was heat-cured acrylic resin in the shape of a disc with a diameter of 50 ± 1 mm and a thickness of 0.5 ± 0.05 mm. The sample size was 10 pieces for each group which was divided into 4 groups, without the addition of Barangan banana stem core fiber (group I), the addition of Barangan banana stem fiber 0.5wt% (group II), the addition of Barangan banana stem core fiber 1wt%. (group III), and the addition of 1.5wt%t of barangan banana stem fiber (group IV). The water sorption value is measured using the water sorption formula from the International Standards Organization No. 1567. The water sorption value data that was obtained was then analyzed using one-way Anova and posthoc LSD statistical tests. The mean value of water sorption in group I, II, III, and IV were 30.14±8.33 g/mm3 , 32.64±5.02 g/mm3 , 36.19±4.41 g/ mm3 , and 41.75±5.20 g/mm3 ; this difference was statistically significant (P=0.001); Posthoc LSD showed that there was a significant difference in water absorption in the heat-cured acrylic resin after reinforce with barangan banana stem fiber (Musa acuminata Var. Linn) 0.5, 1, and 1.5wt% between the two groups, namely group I and group III (p=0.029), group I and group IV (p=0.000), group II and group IV (p=0.002), and group III to group IV (p=0.043). Meanwhile, between group I and group II (p = 0.352), and group II and group III (p = 0.190) there was no significant difference. The conclusion from this research There was an increase in water absorption after the addition of the barangan banana stem core fiber. Then there was an insignificant difference in the water absorption of the control group and 0.5% and the 0.5% and 1% groups.
