dc.description.abstractOral cavity cancer is head and neck cancer with the highest mortality rate compared to all types of malignancy. Epithelial dysplasia is a precancerous lesion that is reversible to become cancerous compared to lesions without dysplasia. So the degree of oral epithelial dysplasia can be a very good predictor of the risk of oral cancer. Cancer chemoprevention is defined as the use of natural or synthetic products to arrest or reverse the process of malignant transformation. Natural ingredients are recommended as chemopreventive agents because of side effects and low levels of toxicity, one of which is gotu kola (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban). This study aimed to examine the different effects of the methanol extract of gotu kola (Centella asiatica (L.) Urb) leaves on the incidence of DMBA-induced dysplasia. This research is a type of laboratory experimental research with the research sample used is white rats wistar strain (Rattus novergicus) totaling 28 divided into 4 groups. Each group received different treatment, group 1 was given methanol extract of gotu kola leaf and scratched 100 g DMBA 0.5%, group 2 was given 100 g DMBA 0.5%, group 3 was given methanol extract of gotu kola leaf and scratched 200 g DMBA 0 .5%, and group 4 was given a streak of 200 g DMBA 0.5%. The trial period was carried out for 61 days. The rat's cheek mucosal tissue was taken and then histopathological examination was performed to see the incidence of dysplasia. The measurement of the degree of dysplasia uses the 2017 WHO score. The results of the measurement of the degree of dysplasia are then analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that there was a difference in the effect of giving methanol extract of gotu kola (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) leaves with the frequency of administration of DMBA twice and three times per week. The group given the extract obtained a lower degree of dysplasia than the group that was not given the extracten_US
