| dc.description.abstract | This study discusses communication. Communication is divided into two parts, namely verbal communication and nonverbal communication. The author establishes the research focus specifically on nonverbal communication of the kinesic/body language type in Japanese individuals. Nonverbal communication involves the use of signs, signals, gestures, body movements, objects, time, and someone's clothing, and can be referred to as body language communication. Nonverbal communication does not use words or language to convey the content of messages or information. This study is a qualitative research. The data collection techniques used by the researcher include observation, literature study, and documentary study. This research is not limited to a specific research site, as the object of this study is the animated film "Koe No Katachi" (2016). The results of this study indicate that out of the 11 selected scenes, there are 46 signs conveyed using or assisted by nonverbal communication in the form of sign language. The characters in the film, namely Nishimiya Shouko, Ishida Shoya, Nishimiya Yuzuru, and Sahara Miyoko, use sign language (Japanese Sign Language/Shuwa) to interact with Nishimiya Shouko, who has hearing impairment. The animation studio animates sign language with hand movements, gestures, and facial expressions of the characters, and provides subtitles to facilitate viewers who are not familiar with sign language. | en_US |
