| dc.description.abstract | The communication style of the Sundanese and constructive way. The
communication style of the Sundanese ethnic group who are members of the
Paguyuban Wargi Sunda (PWS) community in the city of Medan will basically be
influenced by the characteristics of the Sundanese ethnic group, who are known
as people who are polite, friendly, tolerant and always make other people feel
comfortable. Therefore, when interacting socially with people in the city of Medan
whose communication style seems firm, loud and speaks in a high tone, it will be
inversely proportional to the communication style of the Sundanese ethnicity. The
differences in the characteristics of the two ethnicities in the style of
communication. It is very likely that this could cause problems in communication
style when ethnic Sundanese interact with Medan city residents. Thus, the purpose
of this study is to determine the communication style of the Sundanese ethnicity
(PWS) when interacting socially with other ethnicities residing in the city of
Medan. This research was conducted using the theory of intercultural
communication and communication styles as well as qualitative methods by taking
primary data through interviews with ethnic Sundanese informants. The results of
the study show that the communication style of the Sundanese when interacting
socially with other ethnicities living in the city of Medan which is more dominant
is the Assertive Style and persuasive communication style, namely the
communication style that tends to behave and speak politely, respect fellow
citizens, be considerate and try avoid conflicts from happening. The assertive
communication style practiced by the Sundanese ethnic group has a positive
impact, namely the development of self-confidence, overcoming conflicts in a
