    Abstract
Damage to the automation system of apron floodlights can have serious implications for flight operations and safety. Malfunctions in apron floodlights can hinder pilots during maneuvers during landing or takeoff, especially in poor or dark weather conditions. Control and monitoring technology using PLC and HMI is an effective solution to address control system issues. This research aims to design an HMI, integrate it with PLC, program the PLC, and evaluate the performance of the apron floodlight control and monitoring system at Kualanamu International Airport. The research utilizes the Modicon M221 TM221CE40R PLC connected through Mod Bus TCP/IP communication using an Ethernet cable. An LDR sensor is used as the input and a relay as the output to activate the apron floodlights. By programming the PLC using ladder diagram language in EcoStruxure Machine Expert (SoMachine Basic) software and designing and simulating the HMI using Vijeo Citect software, the apron floodlights can be monitored and controlled in real-time through a computer. The research follows a procedure that includes literature review, determination of tools and materials, circuit system design, HMI design, system testing, analysis of test results, and conclusion. The research findings reveal five effective modes for controlling apron floodlights: Manual On/Off per pole, Manual On/Off All, RTC mode, Timer mode, and LDR sensor mode. All of these modes function well according to the designed system.
