    Abstract
Indonesia's energy needs are dominated by the use of fossil fuels whose energy is non-renewable and the process of its formation takes millions of years. The decreasing reserves of fossil energy on earth, especially in Indonesia, causes researchers to compete to find energy that is environmentally friendly and easily renewed. Co-firing, also known as co-combustion, is a method of burning two different types of fuel in a similar combustion device. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the combustion temperature, fuel properties, and the potential for slagging that occurs in the co-combustion process. The raw materials used in this research are coal and palm fiber. This research was conducted using a laboratory scale boiler, with two combustion processes using 100 kg of total fuel with a ratio of 60% coal and 40% palm fiber. From the excess air variation of 20% and 25%, a slagging potential of 0.28 was obtained which was classified as low potential, with the highest combustion temperature of 821.6 0C in test 1 at 300 minutes, and 931.6 0C in test 2 at 270 minutes. From the fuel test it was also found that coal has a carbon value of 61.35% and palm fiber 42.14%. The volatile matter value of coal is 11.57% and palm fiber is 42.14%. The HHV value for coal is 7564.80 Kcal/kg and the LHV is 6790.42 Kcal/kg, while for palm fiber the HHV value is 4963.71 Kcal/Kg and the LHV value is 4189.33 Kcal/kg.
