dc.description.abstract | The desire to go on a diet in order to lose weight is carried out for various reasons, both factors from the individual and influences from the surrounding environment. Various ways are done by young women to be able to lose weight as desired. The diet method used by young women is often wrong, such as not eating in the morning, reducing food portions, exercising excessively and using slimming drugs. This is done in order to lose weight instantly and quickly. Excessive and unhealthy dietary behavior will cause health problems. This study aims to determine the relationship between individual and social environmental factors with dietary behavior in grade 10 female students at 5 Public High School Medan. This research is a quantitative research with cross sectional research design. The total sample in this study was 72 people. The dependent variable of this research is dietary behavior and the independent variables are knowledge about diet, attitude, peer influence, and mass media. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. The statistical analysis used was the chi-square test. The results of data analysis using the Chi Square test showed p=0.788 for the knowledge variable about diet, p=0.836 for the attitude variable, p=0.000 for the peer influence variable, and p=0.000 for the mass media influence variable. It was concluded that there was a relationship between the influence of peers and the mass media and dieting behavior and there was no relationship between knowledge about dieting and attitudes to dieting behavior of 10th grade students at 5 Public High School Medan.
