Simanindo is one of the sub-districts in Samosir regency which is a
developing tourist area located on the shores of Lake Toba. Community
participation can support aspects of sustainable tourism in order to develop,
sustainable tourism is a form of tourism that improves socio-economic,
environmental, cultural and governance aspects. With community participation,
Simanindo can develop its tourism sector, this makes community participation in
sustainable tourism development in the Simanindo area significant. The purpose of
this study is to find out what participation the community does in developing
sustainable tourism in Simanindo. The method used in this study is a descriptive
research method with a mixed method, which is a combination of quantitative and
qualitative research. The data collection method is in the form of 100
questionnaires distributed to local communities in four tourist attraction locations
in Simanindo and consisting of 25 questionnaires per one tourist attraction,
interviews with eight resource persons who have lived in the research location for
more than five years each one tourist attraction consisting of two resource persons
whose work is related to tourism and observation. The forms of community
participation, namely participating in decision making, participating in providing
goods or services, participating in infrastructure and facility development,
participating in environmental convergence and participating in the form of
planning Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Group) will be associated with socioeconomic
aspects, environmental aspects, cultural aspects and governance aspects
of sustainable tourism. The results conclude the opinion of local communities on
community participation in sustainable tourism development in Simanindo. The
results of this study concluded that the most dominating form of community
participation is providing goods and services and the most dominating aspect in
sustainable tourism is the cultural aspects in Simanindo sub-district, Samosir
regency.
