    Abstract
Antihypertensive drugs are pharmacological therapies in lowering blood pressure, but antihypertensive drugs have side effects on the oral cavity, one of which is a decrease in salivary flow rate. Antihypertensive drugs are anticholinergic so they can affect salivary flow directly and indirectly. The inclusion criteria in this study were hypertensive patients who took antihypertensive drugs regularly for at least 1 year and were cooperative. While the exclusion criteria in this study are patients who suffer from other systemic diseases and take other anticholinergic drugs. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of antihypertensive drugs and salivary flow rate in hypertensive patients at the Lubuk Pakam Health Center. This study design uses observational analytics with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study was hypertensive patients at the Lubuk Pakam Health Center as many as 79 patients. The sampling method is the purposive sampling method. Data collection was carried out directly by filling out questionnaires and saliva collection by subjects. Data processing and analysis with Chi Square statistical test. The results showed a relationship between the class of antihypertensive drugs on salivary water rate with P value = 0.007 (<0.05), and there was a relationship between the duration of taking the drug and salivary flow rate with P value = 0.00 (< 0.05). The conclusion of this study is the use of antihypertensive drugs on salivary flow rate in hypertensive patients at Lubuk Pakam Health Center.
