Hubungan Pola Asuh Orang Tua dengan Tingkat Kemandirian Anak Retardasi Mental

Abstract

Parenting style is a set of behavior implemented by parents in interacting with their children. The implementation of good parenting style is required to train the children independence. The independence of mentally retarded child is a balance between self-care ability and the ability to fulfill their basic needs. Mentally retarded children with require special supports from their family through the parenting style to train their independence in doing daily activities. This research aims employs Literature review method which aims to find out the correlation between parenting style and independence level of mentally retarded children. Data are collected from the database of Garuda, Google scholar, ScienceDirect and EBSCO. 15 articles are obtained after being selected using the criteria. The research result indicates that of the 15 articles that have been reviewed, there is a correlation between parenting style and independence level of mentally retarded children. Democratic parenting style is a good parenting style to increase the independence of mentally retarded children. It is suggested that parents with mentally retarded children can choose a suitable parenting style to increase the level of child independence.
