Kepatuhan Minum Obat pada Penderita Hipertensi di Lingkungan XVIII Kelurahan Binjai

Abstract

One of the main factors to successful therapy in hypertension patients is adherence to hypertension medication. Proper medication adherence can affect blood pressure gradually and prevent complications. This research aims to identify the level of medication adherence of hypertension patients in Lingkungan XVIII Kelurahan Binjai. The samples are collected using a total sampling technique and data are gathered by filling out the questionnaires of the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). This quantitative research employs a descriptive design. The research is carried out from February - June 2023 and the data are analyzed using univariate data analysis method. The result indicates that the level of medication adherence of hypertension patients in Lingkungan XVIII Binjai is namely 10 people (33.3%) are in the high category, 9 people (30.0%) are in the medium category, and 11 people (36.3%) are in the low category. It concludes that the level of medication adherence of hypertension patients is low. This condition occurs because the respondents do not feel any symptoms of hypertension (headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, restlessness, and blurred vision) so they stop taking the hypertension medicine. It is suggested to the healthcare staff to provide education for hypertension patients in order to take anti-hypertension medicines regularly.
