Hubungan Dukungan Keluarga dengan Kepatuhan Diet Pasien Diabetes Mellitus Tipe 2 di Puskesmas Helvetia Medan

Abstract

The diet of diabetes mellitus is the most important management for type 2 diabetes mellitus disease and it takes long term or for life. Therefore, it can cause boredom for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. In order to overcome this boredom, the involvement of medical professionals, health service providers, and particularly the support from family are required. This quantitative research employs cross sectional approach that aims to find out if there is a correlation between family support and diet adherence in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Helvetia Public Health Center, Medan. The research samples are taken using accidental sampling technique with a total of 50 respondents and data obtained are analyzed using chi-square test. The instruments used are HDFSS (Hensarling Diabetes Family Support Scale) and questionnaires of diet adherence. The result indicates that the majority of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients have a good family support which is 28 people (56%) and 30 people (60%) adhere to diabetes mellitus diet. After conducting chi-square test, p-value of 0.000 is obtained, which indicates that there is a correlation between family support and diet adherence in Helvetia Public Health Center, Medan. Based on the research result, the number of patients who have a good support and lack of support are nearly equal. Therefore, nurses can provide family nursing care comprehensively and health education to type 2 diabetes mellitus patients regarding diabetes mellitus disease.
