dc.description.abstractThe blood pressure greater than 140 mmHg (systolic) and lower than 90 mmHg (diastolic) is referred to hypertension. It is a major risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases in addition to non-communicable disease. The high number of hypertension incidence is due to various factors, namely uncontrollable factors such as heredity, gender, and age; and controllable factors, such as obesity, lifestyle, diet, activity, smoking habits, and alcohol and salt consumption. The research aims to find out the description of hypertension in the elderly group in Dusun V, Desa Kapias Batu VIII, Tanjung Balai. This quantitative research is conducted using descriptive design. Conducting the total sampling technique, the number of samples is the same as the number of the population which consists of 30 respondents. Data are obtained using questionnaires. They are analyzed using a frequency distribution. The result of blood pressure indicates that the majority of elderly suffers from grade I hypertension which is 23 respondents (76.7%)en_US
