Introduction: Distant metastatic cancer undergoes coagulation system activation, thrombin formation and fibrin formation and degradation, which play a role in angiogenesis, tumor progression, occult tumor cells, and metastatic spread. Increased levels of d-dimer have an important prognostic role in breast cancer prognosis , many studies have documented the prognostic role of plasma d-dimer in various types of cancer. This study aims to examine the relationship between d-dimer levels and distant metastases in breast cancer patients at H. Adam Malik Hospital.
Methods: This research is a cross-sectional study where data collection was taken to record the characteristics of breast cancer which was then examined by d-dimer in breast cancer patients at Adam Malik Hospital and obtained a sample of 35 people from January -March 2023.AnalysisDescriptive statistics were used for demographic data. Differential analysis of the Chi Square test or the alternative is Fisher's is used to examine the relationship of variables. Research data were analyzed statistically with the help of a computer program where the relationship was considered statistically significant if p <0.05.
Results: The average age found was 40.17+4.335 years, with a range of 36-55 years. The sex of all respondents was female, where the most common comorbid disease was hypertension, the most common grade was grade II and the most reported molecular subtype was luminal B. In this study the d-dimer levels showed the most in the high category (>0.55 mg /L). In this study, most patients with distant metastases were found, and bone was the most common site of distant metastases.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between D-dimer levels and distant metastases.
