dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Enteral nutrition is recommended within 24 to 48 hours after admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), when resuscitation and hemodynamic stability have been achieved. This study aims to determine the tolerability of enteral nutrition in septic shock patients in the ICU Method: This research is an observational retrospective study, implemented in the ICU of the H. Adam Malik Center General Hospital in Medan by taking patient data for months January to December 2022. Samples were septic shock patients who were treated in the ICU using mechanical ventilation and using a vasopressor with a length of stay of more than 48 hours. Data collection was carried out on the time required for enteral nutrition, as well as assessing patient tolerability (presence of vomiting, residue, and ileus). In addition, other assessments, such as patient length of stay, and patient mortality rates. Results: This study consisted of 47 samples, with a total sample of 23 male patients (48.9%) and 24 female samples (51.1%). Based on the underlying disease, 40.4% of the samples were diagnosed with pneumonia.In the tolerability of enteral nutrition, 83% of samples were tolerant to early enteral nutrition, but with a high mortality rate of 89.4%. The patient's initiation time for enteral nutrition is4.94 ± 1.79 hours (p=0.001). And the average hospital stay for sepsis patients was 7.30 ± 6.55 days (p=0.001). Conclusion: Most patients with sepsis and septic shock in the ICU are tolerant to early enteral nutrition <24 hours, but does not reduce mortality.en_US
