| dc.description.abstract | Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is more common in people with diabetes mellitus (DM). The prevalence of diabetic ED (DED) varies from 32 to 90%. The complex pathogenesis of DED sufferers causes this disease to be classified as difficult to treat. The International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) is an efficient and accurate screening tool to identify the presence and severity of ED and has been shown to have a high level of sensitivity and specificity for ED.
Objective: This study aims to obtain an overview of erectile dysfunction among T2DM patients at the Haji Adam Malik General Hospital.
Methods: This is an analytic descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. It was conducted at the Department of Surgery, Division of Urological Surgery and Department of Internal Medicine, H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan, from January 2021 to September 2022. The data was processed and analyzed descriptively and analytically. Descriptive data was presented as numbers and percentages, while for analytic was analyzed with chi-square test, the significance of the test results is determined based on p-value<0.05.
Result: The results showed the prevalence of ED in men with T2DM at H. Adam Malik General Hospital was 86.1%. Severe DE was 32.5%, moderate DE was 19.0%, mild - moderate DE was 22.5%, and mild DE was 12.1%.
Conclusion: There is a significant association between age, duration of DMT2, history of insulin treatment, and the prevalence of ED, while the level of education and family history of DM did not have a significant association with the prevalence of ED. | en_US |
