Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the immune system. HIV infection causes people with HIV to often develop opportunistic infections due to a weakened immune system. Opportunistic infections can use head CT scan without contrast as a supporting examination and see the response to therapy, one of which is cerebral toxoplasmosis.
Objective: To assess the image of non-contrast head CT scan of HIV/AIDS patients with neurological disorders who received antiretrovirals and did not receive antiretrovirals.
Subjects and Methods: This study is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design on 46 samples to determine the picture of non-contrast head CT scans in HIV / AIDS patients who received antiretrovirals and did not receive antiretrovirals at H.Adam Malik Medan Hospital in 2021-2022 seen from medical records conducted by researchers and one radiologist.
Results: The average age range of HIV patients was above 35 years (12.8%), the most common gender of HIV patients was male as many as 19 samples (82.6%), the most neurological symptoms were headache in 11 samples (47.8%), the most lesion location was the parietal lobe in 13 samples (56.5%). The largest number of lesions was no visible lesions in 14 samples (60.9%). The most common type of lesion was hypodense lesion in 15 samples (65.2%).
Conclusion: There is a significant positive correlation in the location of lesions, the number of lesions and the type of lesions on CT scan images between HIV and Antiretroviral Administration in patients of Haji Adam Malik Medan Hospital.
