Background : Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is a surgical procedure for Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS). Computed Tomography Scan Paranasal Sinuses (CT Scan PNS) was used as a roadmap during FESS. The Keros and Gera classifications can be used to evaluate the height and angle of the Lateral Lamella (LL) on the CT Scan of PNS which is the most dangerous area and at risk of injury during FESS.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference between Keros classification and Gera classification on CT Scan PNS at Prof. dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital (CPL Hospital).
Methods : This research is cross sectional study using the CT Scan PNS of patients from CPL Hospital Medan in January until December 2022.
Results : Of the 94 patients, the most right-sided Keros classification type was type 2 (54.3%) and left-sided was type 1 (56%), while the most right-sided and left-sided Gera classification types was type 2 (67% and 80.8%). The most common types of Keros and Gera classifications on the right and left sides in the male was type 2 (74.5% and 61.7%) and (61.7% and 87.2%). The most common type of right and left sided Keros classification in the female was type 1 (65.9% and 74.4%), while the most right and left sided Gera classification type was type 2 (72.3% and 74.5%). Based on statistical analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference between the types of Keros and Gera classification with p value <0.001. There is a significant difference between Keros and Gera classification in patients who underwent a CT Scan PNS at CPL Hospital Medan.
