Background: The prevalence of myopia worldwide, especially in Asia, is increasing every year. Pathological changes in the posterior segment of myopia are one of the factors that contribute to the pathological process of myopia that can threaten vision.
Objective: To determine the relationship between central corneal thickness and retinal nerve fiber layer to the degree of myopia at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of North Sumatra, using Spectral Domain OCT.
Method: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Refraction examination, central corneal thickness with pachymetry, and retinal nerve fiber layer with SD-OCT were performed. The statistical analysis used was Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results: A total of 35 people were included in this study with a mean age of 22.2 years, a mean central corneal thickness of 538.74 ± 35.73 μm, and a mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness of 99.21 ± 9.02 μm. The most common degrees of myopia were mild (40%) and moderate (38.6%). There was a significant relationship between central corneal thickness and the degree of myopia (P<0.001). There is a significant relationship between the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer and the degree of myopia (P < 0.001).
Conclusion: There is a relationship between the degree of myopia with central corneal thickness and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness.
