Background: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is currently increasing and causing health problems in the world with worrying complications, one of which is eye health. Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients experience more rapid eye biometric changes compared to people without diabetes Objective: To determine the difference in amplitude of accommodation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and the normal peri-presbyopic population Materials and Methods: This research is an analytical observational study with a cross sectional design. A total of 35 control subjects and 35 case subjects underwent refraction examination, measurement of accommodation amplitude using Royal Air Force (RAF) rules and recording of the duration of diabetes mellitus and HbA1c levels. Results: Of the 35 subjects, 22 were female subjects (62.9%) with an average age of 41 years. Subjects with type 2 DM had suffered from type 2 DM for an average of 3.7 years. In type 2 DM subjects, a significant relationship and correlation was found between age and accommodation amplitude with a correlation value of -0.856. There is a significant difference in accommodation amplitude in type 2 DM and normal populations with p<0.001. There is no correlation between HbA1c levels with accommodation amplitude Conclusion: There was a significant decrease in accommodation amplitude in type 2 DM patients (p<0.001). There is a significant difference in accommodation amplitude between type 2 DM patients and the normal populationen_US
