dc.description.abstract | This research discusses the expansion of the Binjai Municipal area. The aim of the research is to find out the condition of the Binjai Municipality before the expansion occurred, the background to the expansion of the Binjai Municipality, the process and the impact of the expansion of the Binjai Municipality from 1982 to 1996. The research method used consists of 4 stages, namely heuristics (data collection), criticism (the process of evaluating any existing data), interpretation (interpreting the data) and historiography (results). This study discusses the historical journey of the expansion of the Binjai Municipality area after the move of the capital Langkat, which was originally located in Binjai, to Stabat. The expansion of Binjai Municipality was motivated by several factors including the influence of Medan City, population density, and the relocation of the capital city of Langkat. Binjai Municipality is one of the areas that tends to become a fairly large area and can run its own government. The Binjai area, which has now become a city, has expanded several of its areas to become several sub-districts. Previously the sub-district was in the Langkat and Deli Serdang areas. However, in the end some of these areas merged with the Municipality of Binjai until now. After the addition of several sub-district areas which were merged with Binjai Municipality, many changes occurred which could be seen in several things such as government, economy, as well as facilities and infrastructure such as bridges, roads, buildings and changes in settlements which were increasing over time. Finally, this expansion made the Binjai Municipal area from originally 1,710 ha to 9,010.67 ha. Binjai Municipality, which originally consisted of 3 sub-districts, has now become 5 sub-districts. | en_US |
