The study aimed to investigate the students’ information seeking behavior at the Faculty of Cultural Science, University of North Sumatra based on the information needs. The type of the research was quantitative descriptive. The population included active students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of North Sumatra. This study employed a probability sampling technique using the Slovin formula, in which the sample consisted of 353 students. The data were collected by distributing questionnaires via Google Form. Based on the cognitive information needs, the initiation stage attained a percentage of 85%, 84% for the topic selection stage, 85% for the exploration stage, 85% for the focus formulation stage, 85% for the collection stage, and 85% for the presentation stage. Based on the affective needs, the initiation stage obtained a percentage of 83%, 82% for the topic selection stage, 84% for the exploration stage, 85% for the focus formulation stage, 86% for the collection stage, and 86% for the presentation stage. The research findings show that in general the students at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of North Sumatra, carried out all stages of information seeking based on the Kuhlthau's theory in searching for their information needs.
