dc.description.abstractThis study used the experiential meaning of the opinion column section media text about sexual harassment in the Jakarta Post. This research focused on analyzing the opinion column section about sexual harassment by using Experiential Metafunction analysis. The transitivity system described the whole clause rather than just the verb and object. The objectives of the study were to identify the types of transitivity that were constructed in the opinion column section, to describe the realization of experiential ,and the reason of the realization of experiential found in the opinion column section media text about sexual harassment in Jakarta Post. Thus, this study used qualitative content analysis to analyze the data. The data in this study were the clauses in Opinion column section about sexual harassment in Jakarta Post, totaling 434 clauses from 7 opinion column section articles about sexual harassment. It found that the most dominant types of transitivity realized in the opinion column section were material process type, which takes 38.02 % of the 434 total occurrences (verbs such as condemned, accused, forced, and helped). The second rank in the overall scale refers to the transitivity process of relational type (attribute, identity, and possesion) (33.70 %), which took a fourth of the percentage of the total process occurrences. The most dominant participant function is the actor, with a total percentage of 28.24 %. The circumstantial element is the location place, with 27.65%. The realization of the circumstantial location was the dominant circumstantial element in the text. Experiential analysis, particularly in the transitivity system, has been useful in uncovering participants involved in sexual harassment. Suggestions are staged to analyze data from any media text opinion column section to compare how female and male writers utilized their opinion in Newspaper, and further research needs to extend the scope of research involving lexical grammatical components and three metafunction.en_US
