dc.description.abstract | One of the medicinal plants that is commonly used in traditional medicine is
turmeric rhizome. The turmeric rhizomes have anti-inflamantory, anti immunodeficiency, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-infective, antioxidant, and other
pharmacological activities.
This study aims to determine the immunomodulatory activity of curcuminoid
VCO extract on increasing the number of leukocytes and their components,
increasing IgG and IgM antibody levels, IL-2, IL-4, INF-γ cytokine levels, TLR4
levels, and decreasing the size of lymph pulp of male white rats that have been
induced by Staphylococcus aureus.
Experimental animals were treated with 100 mg/ml curcuminoid VCO extract
at a dose of 1 ml, 0.5 ml, 0.25 ml, curcuminoid suspension 250 mg/kgBW,
levamisole suspension 25 mg/kg BW, 1 ml VCO, and negative controls are only
given Na CMC 0.5%. The extract is administered orally to the test animals once a
day for 14 days and on the 4th day Staphylococcus aureus is injected
intraperitoneally. Mice blood was taken from the heart and then the number of
leukocytes and their components are calculated by flowcytometry, antibody levels,
cytokine levels, TLR4 levels are examined by ELISA, and microscopic
examination of mice spleen pulp Hematoxylin-Eosin preparation.
The results show that there is a significant difference between the
immunomodulatory activity of curcuminoid VCO extract on increasing the number
of leukocytes and their components, increasing antibody levels, cytokine levels,
TLR4 levels, and decreasing the size of the spleen pulp diameter of mice compared
to the negative control group with a p≤0.05 value.
It can be concluded that curcuminoid VCO extract is able to increase the number
of leukocytes and their components, IgG and IgM antibody levels, IL-2, IL-4, INF γ cytokine levels, TLR4 levels, and reduce the size of mice spleen pulp. Therefore,
the curcuminoid VCO extract of turmeric rhizome has the potential to have
immunomodulatory activity. | en_US |
