    Abstract
Providing plant water is one of the most important things in the growth of tomato plants (Lyocopersicum esculentum Mill). Providing proper water in an effort to save water to avoid excessive water use can be achieved by watering intervals. Estimating the water requirements of tomato plants (Lyocopersicum esculentum Mill) can be done using the Hargreaves method. This research aims to determine the water requirements of tomato plants (Lyocopersicum esculentum Mill) in andosol soil based on the Hargreaves method and its effect on plant growth in the Rumah Berastagi village area, Berastagi District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. This research used a non-factorial, completely randomized design. Watering intervals are once a day, once every 3 days, and once every 5 days. The parameters tested were potential evapotranspiration (Etp), plant water requirements (Etc), fruit weight, water productivity. The results showed that the highest evapotranspiration value was in August at 5.38 mm/day and the lowest in October at 4.56 mm/day. The water requirement value of tomato plants was found in the initial stage at 3.21 mm/day, the middle stage at 5.60 mm/day, and the final stage at 3.73 mm/day. The result of the largest fruit weight is the treatment of a watering interval once a day: 3.52 kg. The best water productivity is at the treatment interval of every 3 days (10,54 g/m3).
