Music is sound waves arranged in order to produce harmony, rhythm, and tone.
Every sound or sound contained in music is produced by instruments that produce
rhythm, which are then referred to as musical instruments. Based on the sound
source, there are 5 types of musical instruments, namely Aerophone,
Chordophone, Idiophone, Membranophone, and Electrophone. The flute is a
musical instrument whose sound comes from the air (aerophone). In mastering the
game of the flute, a lesson is needed that can teach the techniques for the basic
notes produced. Lack of understanding of the tone as the basis for playing flute
music can lead to discordant and out of tune with the music. So, we need an
approach to identify the tone of each sound produced by this musical instrument.
One method that can be used to detect the musical instrument’s tone is the HPS
(Harmonic Product Spectrum) method. In order to build the system, a method is
needed to use to identify the sound, namely the Harmonic Product Spectrum. The
research was built to show the accuracy of this algorithm on notes or chords
produced from each chord transition that is played. From the design that has been
made the system accuracy reaches 90% - 95%.
