Indonesian agriculture has an important part in people's lives, including North
Sumatra Province. In 2020, the majority of North Sumatra's population worked in
the agricultural sector, amounting to 2.6 million people (BPS, 2020b). The high
number of people working in the agricultural sector means that this sector has
become a mainstay sector in North Sumatra. One of North Sumatra's mainstay
subsectors after plantation crops is food crops, one of which is cassava. The largest
cassava producer in North Sumatra is Serdang Bedagai Regency. One of the
cassava producing sub-districts in Kebaputan Serdang Bedagai is Sipispis Sub district, but there are still villages that do not have farmer groups and extension
workers but on average the community earns additional income from cassava,
namely Nagur Pane Village. The problem in this village is that the community still
has minimal knowledge regarding the condition of the land in this village which is
not suitable for planting cassava and a lack of knowledge in increasing cassava
productivity. This happens because there are no farmer groups or extension
workers. This research aims to determine the factors that are significantly related
to farmers' decisions to plant cassava in Nagur Pane Village, Sipispis District,
Serdang Bedagai Regency. This research uses binary logistic linear regression
analysis with the independent variables Age (X1), farming experience (X2), land
area (X3), education level (X4), and number of family dependents (X5). This
research uses primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through
interviews with 31 horticultural farmers and secondary data was obtained through
village statistical data. The selection of the research location was carried out
purposively. Sampling was taken using a probability sampling technique, namely
simple random sampling using the Slovin formula. The results of this research show
that the factors that are significantly related to farmers' decisions to plant cassava
are farming experience (X2) and number of family dependents (X5). So the research
can be a reference for the government in equitable agricultural development
through extension workers and farmer groups and for further researchers can add
variable factors related to farmers' decisions to plant cassava
