This study aims to obtain the utilization of carrot extract in purebred
chicken egg yolk citrate diluent on the quality of Sungai buffalo spermatozoa. This
research was carried out the UPTD Department of Agriculture and Animal
Husbandry of North Sumatera Province. The design used was a completely
randomized design (CRD) with 5 Treatments and 4 replications. The treatment was
given carrot extract consisting of P0 : 100% egg yolk citrate + 0% carrot extract;
P1 : 77.5% egg yolk citrate + 22.5% carrot extract; P2 : 75% egg yolk citrate +
25% carrot extract; P3 : 72.5% + 27.5% carrot extract; P4 : 70% egg yolk citrate
+ 30% carrot extract. The observed parameters are motility, viability, abnormality,
and mortality of spermatozoa.
The results showed that the average spermatozoa motility were P0, P1, P2,
P3, and P4, respectively, 12.5%, 16.25%, 8.75%, 7.5% and 4.5%. Spermatozoa
viability were 21.75%, 24.75%, 19.25%, 17.75% and 13%, respectively.
Spermatozoa abnormalities were respectively 22.5%, 20.87%, 21.87%, 23% and
25.25%. Spermatozoa mortality were 39.25%, 36.25%, 41.75%, 43.25% and 48%,
respectively. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the treatment had
a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the motility, viability, abnormality and
mortality of spermatozoa. It can be concluded that the addition of 22.5% (P1)
carrot extract in purebred chicken egg yolk citrate diluent can maintain the quality
of river buffalo spermatozoa because it can provide the best results in maintaining
the quality of river buffalo spermatozoa.
