A Description of Meaning and Function of Reog Ponorogo Performance in East Java
Abstract
This research discusses the Reog Ponorogo performance which is a folk dance art originating from the city of Ponorogo, East Java. Reog is a traditional dance in an open area that functions as folk entertainment and contains magical elements. The author's method uses a qualitative descriptive method to find and collect and analyze data by reading the data then asking questions to the sources, describing the data that has been collected and finally making conclusions. The results of the study that the presentation form of Reog Ponorogo Art is non-representative seen through the elements of the dance presentation form, namely: movements, dancers, floor patterns, music, costumes, makeup, properties, time and place of performance. From the structured performance beginning with jathilan dancers, warok, Bujangganom, Klana Sewandona, Singabarong then the procession.
