Description of The Origin of “Sinaga” Clan in Toba Batak

Abstract

This paper describes the origin and the genealogy of Sinaga Clan. Descriptive qualitative methods is applied in this study in order to find and collect data such as information about Sinaga clan in Batak Toba from the informant by casual interview as well as books or even internet or journals. The theory applied in describing the phenomena of Sinaga clan is from the history and genealogy of Sinaga as a particular clan in Batak Toba. It is culturally noted that Sinaga clan is showing not only as descendant of Sinaga but also as marga or clan identity of Sinaga. Thus, the clan Sinaga is inherent to that person both individually or collectively to those who are belonged to Sinaga as unity. This marga or clan is finally understood as family that cannot be united in marriage for having the same clan.
