The Description of Figure of Speech in Niki’s Selected Songs

Abstract

This paper entitled “THE DESCRIPTION OF FIGURE OF SPEECH IN NIKI’S SELECTED SONGS”. The objective of this study is to describe the types of figure of speech found in NIKI’s selected song lyrics and to describe the dominant type of figure of speech found in NIKI’s selected song lyrics. The theory used in this paper is Kennedy and Gioia’s theory in book An Introduction to Poetry. The source of the data from this research is in the form of song lyrics from NIKI’s songs entitled La La Lost You, Lose, Every Summertime, Ocean and Engines, and Indigo. The method used by the researcher is a qualitative descriptive method. The figure of speech found in this paper is metaphor, hyperbole, repetition, simile, apostrophe, paradox, allegory, personification, synecdoche, and metonymy. The dominant type of figure of speech found in this paper is metaphor figure of speech.
