    Abstract
This research aims to find out and determine leading sectors that can later be developed, as well as knowing changes and shifts in sectors in the Central Tapanuli Regency area. This research uses a quantitative descriptive research type using the Klassen Typology, Location Quotient (LQ), Shift Share and Overlay analysis methods. The type of data used is secondary data taken from Central Tapanuli Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data and North Sumatra Gross Regional Domestic Product data in the form of time series data from 2012-2021. A lot of data that was processed for 10 years was obtained from the Central Statistics Agency of North Sumatra and Central Tapanuli. Research results from the results of Klassen Typology analysis calculations show that there are four advanced and fast-growing sectors in the economy of Central Tapanuli Regency, four sectors that are classified as still able to develop, while the other nine sectors are classified as relatively underdeveloped sectors. The results of the LQ analysis calculation show that Central Tapanuli district has 4 superior/basic sectors and 13 other sectors are included in the non-basic sectors. From the results of the Shift Share Analysis research, it shows that there are seven sectors that have competitive advantages. The results of the overlay analysis show that there are two sectors that are quite dominant in getting priority in development and there are ten sectors that are experiencing development so they need to receive attention to increase their contribution in determining GRDP.
