A Description of Figure of Speech in Ed-Sheeran’s Selected Song

Abstract

This paper entitled “A DESCRIPTION OF FIGURE OF SPEECH IN ED SHEEERAN’S SELECTED SONG”. The objective of this study is to describe the types of figure of speech found in Ed Sheeran‟s selected song lyrics and to describe the dominant type of figure of speech found in Ed Sheeran‟s selected song lyrics. The theory used in this paper is Gorys Keraf‟s theory in book Diksi dan Gaya Bahasa. The source of the data from this research is in the form of song lyrics from Ed Sheeran‟ Divide and Multiply album entitled Shape of You, Dive, Happier, Perfect, Photograph, and Thinking Out Loud. The method used by the researcher is a qualitative descriptive method. The figure of speech found in this paper is hyperbole, metaphor, personification, simile, irony, metonymy, synecdoche, and allegory. The dominant types of figure of speech found in this paper is metaphor and personification figure of speech.
