Pola Komunikasi Orang Tua Tunggal dalam Membentuk Kemandirian Anak di SMK Pariwisata Imelda Kota Medan

Abstract

This research is entitled Single Parent Communication Patterns in Forming Children's Independence at Imelda Tourism Vocational School, Medan City. The aim of this research was to determine the communication patterns of single parents in forming children's independence at Imelda Tourism Vocational School, Medan. The theories used in this research are interpersonal communication, effective interpersonal communication, and family communication patterns. This research uses qualitative research with a case study method. Data collection techniques use in-depth interviews and observation. The selection of informants was carried out using Purposive Sampling Technique. The informants in this study were eight children who had single parents. The data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman model which consists of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research results show that single parents' interpersonal communication forms children's independence through democratic communication patterns. This democratic pattern of parental communication is generally characterized by an attitude of openness between parents and children. All informants have independence in everyday life. The informants are able to take care of themselves (do all their own activities), are able to make their own decisions and choices according to their views, are able to socialize with their friends and have the ability to control emotions and empathize with other people.
