dc.description.abstractThis paper entitled “A DECRIPTION OF THE MAIN CHARACTER’S DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH IN NEIL GAIMAIN’S NOVEL CORALINE” The objective of this study is to describe the meaning and sentences of direct speech and indirect action found in the Nail Gaiman’s novel ,Coraline. Some theories, such as yule, Maurer, Vaillette and Thomson, are used to analyze the speech found in the novel. The method used in writing the study is descriptive qualitative methodology. The utterances spoken in the novel Coraline is the source of the data examined in this paper. According to the results of the paper, the novel Coraline utilized both direct and indirect speech when speaking. Direct speech (18 utterances) and indirect speech (6 utterances) are the two speech acts categories that appear most frequently in the utterances of the novel's main character.en_US
