    Abstract
Background. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an organized system for critically ill patients with intensive medical care, monitoring, and organ support to treat lifethreatening organ failure. Sepsis is defined as a life-threatening condition caused by damage to the body's own tissue due to the body's excessive reaction to infection. Data from The Global Burden of Disease Sepsis Report estimates 48.9 million cases of sepsis every year, with 11 million cases were leading to death. Therefore, the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Early Warning Score (EWS) score systems can be used to estimate the follow-up of a patient in the ICU. Evaluation of prognosis based on SOFA and EWS scores is not yet confirmed for the clinical condition of patients with sepsis. Aim. This study aims to determine the correlation between SOFA score and EWS with the length of stay of sepsis patients in the ICU of RSU Imelda Pekerja Indonesia Medan. Methods. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross sectional design. The data collection method uses secondary data in the form of medical records and samples are taken using total sampling technique. Results. The results of the study on 64 patients diagnosed with sepsis and treated in the ICU of RSU Imelda Pekerja Indonesia Medan are obtained using the Spearman correlation test showed that there was no significant correlation between the SOFA score and the length of stay of sepsis patients in the ICU (p=0.719) while there was a significant correlation between EWS and the length of stay of sepsis patients in the ICU (p=0.001). Conclusions. There is no correlation between the SOFA score and length of stay in sepsis patients, whereas there is a correlation between EWS and length of stay in sepsis patients.
