Strategi Perempuan Single Parent dalam Mendukung Pendidikan Anak (Studi pada Orang Tua Murid Sekolah Menengah Atas di Kecamatan Biru-Biru, Kabupaten Deli Serdang)
Abstract
This study aims to determine the strategies used by single parent women in Biru-
Biru Sub-district in supporting their children's education and the reasons they are
interested in supporting their children's education so that their children can
complete their education. This research was conducted using descriptive research
methods with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used in this
study were in-depth interviews and documentation. The informants in this study
totaled 12 people consisting of 10 female single parents due to death divorce who
reside in Biru-Biru sub-district and 2 representatives of public and private
schools as additional informants who provided information related to the
assistance provided by the school to students who come from single parent
families. The results of this study found that single parent women in Biru-Biru
Sub-district rationally chose to continue supporting children's education by
carrying out 4 strategies including active strategies, passive strategies, network
strategies and side job strategies. These strategies are carried out by single
parent women in Biru-Biru Sub-district based on their respective abilities and
potential. They realize that children's education is important in life so it must be
supported. This research also explains why single parent women in Biru-Biru
Sub-district have an interest in supporting children's education, namely their
desire as single parents to improve the social status of the family and improve the
family economy through children's education.
