dc.description.abstractThis research aims to know and understand how the mendodoi tradition is carried out and to know and understand the influence of the mendodoi tradition on early childhood character building in the Malay people in Hamparan Perak Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency. This research is a quantitative correlation type using statistical methods. The theories used are folklore theory, classical conditioning personality psychology theory by Ivan Pavlov and opera conditioning personality psychology theory by B. F. Skinner. The results obtained from this study are that the mendodoi tradition carried out by the Malay people in Hamparan Perak Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency is carried out in three methods, that is carrying, swinging and lying down. The character formed due to the influence of the mendodoi tradition is a religious and polite character. Seen from the level of influence, based on the correlation test which obtained the results, r-Count with a value of 0.702 indicates that the mendodoi tradition has a strong relationship with early childhood character building. Furthermore, based on the results of the F test with f-Count (586.559) > f-Table (3.87) with a significance value of f-Count (0.000) < significance f-Table (0.05) and the results of the T test with the value of t-Count (24.219) > t-Table (1.967) with a significance value of t-Count (0.000) < significance t-Table (0.05), the alternative hypothesis H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Thus it can be said that there is an influence of the mendodoi tradition on the character building of early childhood. The conclusion of this research is that the mendodoi tradition in the Malay community in Hamparan Perak Village still exists and is carried out in three ways, that is carrying, swinging and lying down while chanting verses in the form of Shalawat Nabi. Based on its influence, the character formed in early childhood is religious and polite character, this means that there is an influence of the mendodoi tradition on the formation of early childhood character in Hamparan Perak Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency. Thus it can be said that the position of holding also influences the formation of character in early childhood so that the Malay community in Hamparan Perak Village, Hamparan Perak District, is dominant in carrying and placing the child in the arms of the mother while reciting poetry which is an oral tradition or oral folklore.en_US
