    Abstract
Every child with special needs has different abilities and potential despite their limitations. To de velop the abilities and potential of children w ith special needs, there needs to be support from the families of children with physical disabilities. Family support is needed by every individual in their life cycle. Family support will be increasingly need ed when children with physical disabilities are facing problems or illness , this is where the role of parents or family is needed to g o through difficult times that children experience. There are three forms of family support provided to children with phys ical disabilities, namely instrumental, emotion al and informational support. This research aims to find out how instrumental, emotional, and informational support from families is for children with physical disabilities who are at the Medan class D Develo pment Foundation for Disabled Children (YPAC). The method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach . The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation The research results show that instrumental sup port tends to be low, where some parents or fam ilies cannot provide this support because of inadequate economic conditions, emotional support also tends to be low where there is one child who does not receive this support. Lastly, informational support, wh ich tends to be the most effective, is given by parents or families to children with class D physical disabilities at YPAC Medan. With this informational support, children feel loved, comfortable , and helped in caring for themselves to develop the child’s abilities and potential. The author’s advice to parents is to strengthen emotional and instrumental support, then YPAC to be able to collaborate with professional social workers and finally to teach ers and YPAC administrators to be able to open communicati on with parents or families.
