A Description of Figurative Language in James Arthur’s Selected Songs
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe about figurative language, especially in songs. This study explains the types of figurative languages and the effects caused by the use of figurative language in James Arthur's selected songs. There are 4 figurative language that the writer uses in the description of this paper, namely Hyperbole, Simile, Personification, and Paradox by referring to the explanation of figurative language presented by Gorys Keraf. In compiling this paper, the writer uses a qualitative description method. In addition, the writer also finds that the use of figurative language can certainly provide effects that can affect readers or listeners so that they are more able to feel what the songwriter is trying to convey.
