dc.description.abstractIntroduction. Preeclampsia is hypertension with an increase in blood pressure up to ≥140/90 mmHg and is measured by 2 measurements over a period of 4 hours accompanied by proteinuria of 300 mg in the urine for 24 hours at 20 weeks of gestation or postpartum. Preeclampsia remains a cause of maternal and perinatal deaths throughout the world. Preeclampsia occurs in more than 70,000 women per year and in more than 500,000 fetuses and newborns, this is equivalent to the loss of 1,600 lives per day. Objective. To understand the characteristics of preeclampsia patients at Haji Adam Malik Hospital, Medan. Method. This research is descriptive research with a cross sectional design. The sampling technique used in this research was total sampling. Results. From the research results, it was found that 61 subjects were found with the highest proportion of mothers aged 20-35 years 57.4%, high school education level 67.22%, and housewife occupation 67.2%. Multipara parity 52.5%, no multiple pregnancies 98.4%, pregnancy interval <10 years 96.7%, no history of hypertension 82% and no history of preeclampsia 88.5%. Length of stay >3 days 93.4%, source of BPJS costs 78.7% and outpatient discharge 95.1%. Conclusion Preeclampsia patients are dominated by the maternal age group 20-35 years, high school education, housewives, multipara, no multiple pregnancies, pregnancy interval 10 years, no history of hypertension, no history of preeclampsia, length of stay >3 days, BPJS and outpatient.en_US
